BATON ROUGE, La. – The last time Ed Orgeron held an in person press conference was back at SEC Media Days, but Sunday’s presser was a complete 180 from the conversation in July.
Orgeron will be done as LSU’s head coach, when the clock hits zero in the fourth quarter of the Tigers’ final game this year.
Whether it was going 5-5 last season, whether it was losing games in historic fashion or failing to support the players during their protest before the 2020 season, Oregon faced a myriad of questions.
The one thing Coach O did know? The Bayou Bengals had not played to the LSU standard over the last two seasons, and Coach O knew the final nail was in the coffin last week.
“When he came and talked to me after the Kentucky game, I knew that it was time, and I understand that. I understand the expectations at LSU, and I invited myself. We did not meet them the last two years. I am honored that I got to be the head coach at LSU. This administration has treated me with class, with dignity, the whole time that I’ve been here. They’re giving me everything that we needed; but I am happy that I can be the coach of the LSU Tigers towards the end of the season; and I promise you this: we’re not gonna blink. I’m glad we beat Florida. Tomorrow’s gonna be “Tell the Truth Monday,” and we gonna be on to Ole Miss.,” Orgeron said.
Coach O also confirmed he would coach the team, if LSU qualified for a bowl game, but when asked if he had any advice for the next coach, Orgeron said “not my job.”
