Best wishes for former Boston Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning, who had two of his children reportedly jumped by four men outside a Vancouver nightclub this weekend. One of Benning’s sons was hospitalized as a result of the attack outside the Banter Room and his daughter recounted the late morning assault on her Instagram, per the Vancouver Sun.

“I tried to fight them off my brother and then one of them strangled me and threw me up against the wall,” Danica Benning wrote in her post. “The police were notified but (the four men) ran off immediately. My brother is in the hospital.”

Vancouver Hockey Now’s Rob Simpson has more details about the incident here, but the partially good news is that it at least sounds like everybody is going to be okay despite some bumps and bruises.

On to the BHN Puck Links:

*Sad story as the Hayes family reveals to the Boston Globe that traces of fentanyl and cocaine played a role in the death of Jimmy Hayes. The stories of fentanyl leading to death in all manner of people should be a really eye-opening trend that seems to be getting more and more common. Scary stuff. (Boston Hockey Now)

*Jake DeBrusk, Brad Marchand and Jeremy Swayman led the way for the Boston Bruins in their season-opening 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. (Boston Hockey Now)

*The Colorado Avalanche honored the recently passed Pierre Lacroix with a tribute this weekend for the team-building legend, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. (Colorado Hockey Now)

*Five takeaways from Calgary’s “Battle of Alberta” loss to the Edmonton Oilers where Connor McDavid took care of business. (Calgary Hockey Now)

*Congrats to Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau getting to 500 points, an amazing milestone when it feels like the young Panthers star players just started out. (Florida Hockey Now)

*An emotional John Tortorella talks about the late Matiss Kivlenieks during ESPN’s hockey coverage. Credit where it’s due, I think ESPN and TNT has really nailed it with everything they’ve done to cover the league thus far.

*Could Jack Hughes be an option for Team USA at the Olympics after his electrifying start to the regular season for the New Jersey Devils? Larry Brooks certainly thinks so. (New York Post)

*And if you missed Hughes with the early candidate for celly of the year after his overtime game-winner, here it is.

*For something completely different: Yup, the Peacemaker series on HBOMax looks all kinds of awesome.
