Two second-half Butler goals send Blue Demons back to Chicago with a loss

INDIANAPOLIS - DePaul women's soccer could not keep pace with a high-powered Butler offense on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, falling 2-0. The Blue Demons (6-9, 3-4 BIG EAST) could only contain the Bulldog (12-2-1, 5-2-1 BIG EAST) offense for so long, allowing a pair of second-half goals that led to the defeat versus one of the top teams in the BIG EAST.

With both teams finding their footing in the opening minutes, DePaul attempted to establish an offensive presence. However, the Blue Demons were able to tally only two first-half shots to Butler's eight. The Bulldogs had a key chance near the 25th minute mark when a long shot from the outside deflected off of the crossbar and out of danger.

Five minutes later, the Blue Demons had an opportunity in the box off of a Grace Phillpotts cross. Phillpotts long pass to a dangerous spot deflected off a group of players and ended up just wide of goal. On the other end, the Bulldogs had a scoring chance in the 35th minute when a clean pass was slipped to the middle of the box. The Butler shot attempt ended up just wide of the goal frame and the game stayed scoreless.

After halftime, the Bulldogs attack kept up the pressure. Butler was able to get on the board in the 56th minute when Amanda Kowalski scored to give Butler the lead. Trailing by a goal, DePaul looked to find more offensive rhythm.

However, Butler eyed offensive chances to add an insurance goal. The Bulldogs were able to convert again with 10 minutes to play. Anastasia Savich was able to knock home a goal after finding space in the box. Savich got to a ball in a dangerous spot and beat Mollie Eriksson to make it 2-0.

With a 2-0 scoreline at the final whistle, DePaul suffered its second-straight BIG EAST defeat after winning three-straight matches heading into the week.
