After dismal performances in Week 6 (and perhaps coupled with previous shortcomings), these NFL head coaches are very much on the hot seat now.

Being an NFL head coach is a fickle business. It doesn’t take much for someone to go from a hero to a goat (and not the greatest of all time). Subsequently, it’s extremely easy for head coaches to move in the margins of security in their jobs to being on the hot seat.

Thus, one week’s performance when an NFL head coach is operating in those margins can definitely turn up the heat on the seat in a hurry, especially depending on how bad of a performance a team delivered under a given sideline leader.

Looking at some big losers of Week 6 in the NFL, these three head coaches should definitely be trying to figure out ways to get off the hot seat moving forward.

3. Matt Nagy, Chicago Bears

This is more of a case of things haven’t changed with Matt Nagy and the Chicago Bears. From the beginning to now in the 2021 season, the head coach in the Windy City has bungled the situation at his hands.

Nagy backed Andy Dalton as QB1 until the bitter end when it became clear that someone else was pulling the strings and telling him to start Justin Fields. Moreover, he was all but forced to give up play-calling because the supposed “offensive guru” was unable to get a consistent attack rolling with Dalton or Fields under center. And that’s just the quarterback situation we’re talking about.

The hope was that, once Fields was forced to be inserted as the starter, the talent would start to shine for the Bears. But as they faced the rival Packers on Sunday in Week 6, we saw that talent just wasn’t enough. Chicago looked outmatched by a Green Bay team playing without a handful of the squad’s best players. That’s tough to swallow.

Barring a miraculous turnaround, Nagy is a lame duck in the 2021 season. He’s not even doing the one thing he was hired for in guiding the offense and the team just isn’t anywhere close to its ceiling under his watch. That shouldn’t be good enough in Chicago.
