Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts: Everything we know about the 31-3 blowout

Final score: Colts 31, Texans 3

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts dominated the Houston Texans 31-3 to take firm command of second place in the AFC South Sunday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Receiver T.Y. Hilton made his 2021 debut after coming off injured reserve, and torched a team he has had success against historically. The Pro Bowler caught four passes for 80 yards.

Texans rookie quarterback Davis Mills threw two interceptions, a step down from his three-touchdown performance in Week 5 against the New England Patriots.

Here is everything we know.

Quarterback Carson Wentz played patiently and didn’t try to do too much. Instead, the onus was on rookie quarterback Davis Mills to try to move the Texans’ offense. One of the problems with Houston’s offense is they have no big-play ability, where as the Colts were able to pick up their first score of the game on a 51-yard touchdown pass to receiver Parris Campbell.

Ultimately, with a third-round rookie having to carry an entire offense, Mills made mistakes. He threw two interceptions. To pile on, running back David Johnson also had a lost fumble of his own. The Texans simply can’t compete with teams if they are losing the turnover battle, let alone not even procuring takeaways of their own.

Jonathan Taylor had an 83-yard run on a first-and-10 from their own 12-yard line. They completely flipped the field with 8:00 to go in the third quarter Indianapolis already leading 17-3. The run setup the Colts in the red zone, and it was all Taylor from there as he extended the lead 24-3 with a 4-yard touchdown.

The Texans fall to 1-5 on the season and go on the road for arguably the least anticipated game of the year: Week 7 at the Arizona Cardinals. Houston will face their former superstars in receiver DeAndre Hopkins and defensive end J.J. Watt.

The Colts improve to 2-4, taking firm command of the AFC South. Indianapolis goes on the road to play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
