The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday afternoon that Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson has been fined $5,000 for roughing Edmonton Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto.

The incident occurred late in the first period of Saturday night's game. A scrum ensued following the whistle, and Andersson proceeds to punch Yamamoto in the head. Andersson received a two-minute minor for roughing, and a two-minute minor for elbowing on the play.

Certain angles of the incident make it seem like Andersson headbutted Yamamoto, but as Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos points out, you can see the Swedish defenceman punch the Oilers forward in the face.

Edmonton would go on to win the game by a score of 5-2, with Connor McDavid scoring a hat trick. Andersson, for his part, picked up an assist along with his four penalty minutes. The two teams will meet again on Monday, December 27th at 10pm ET.
