Jackson pedestrian underwent 'emergency surgery' after Lakewood crash

LAKEWOOD — A 30-year-old Jackson man was hospitalized Sunday after he was struck by a car in Lakewood, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was walking at the intersection of Route 70 and Vermont Avenue when he was struck around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Lakewood Police Detective Sgt. Nathaniel Montgomery said in an email.

The man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he underwent emergency surgery, Montgomery said. He remained in critical but stable condition on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

"The investigation is ongoing," said Montgomery in the email. "There were no summons or charges issued at this time."
