Urban Meyer calls Jaguars' first win in more than a year a 'three-hour root canal'

The Jacksonville Jaguars snapped a 20-game losing streak Sunday with a come-from-behind, 23-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins in London. It was the first victory of Urban Meyer's career as an NFL head coach, but he didn't exactly enjoy the ride.

"It's a three-hour root canal," Meyer said after the game, via Mark Long of The Associated Press.

Jacksonville tied the game with a 54-yard field goal with less than four minutes remaining and forced a turnover on downs on the Dolphins' ensuing possession. With one second left on the clock, Jaguars kicker Matthew Wright was trusted again to be the hero and nailed a 53-yard field goal to secure the win. It was Jacksonville's first victory since Week 1 of the 2020 season.

Meyer, 57, had four college football head-coaching stints with Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State. While he earned three national championships in the college ranks, his first season in the NFL has been mired by controversy and poor play on the field.

After two years of retirement, Meyer was named the Jaguars' head coach in January 2021. Three months later, Jacksonville selected former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Lawrence finished the victory over the Dolphins with 319 passing yards and one touchdown.
