The Detroit Pistons have completed the preseason and are inching closer to the games that count.

Although we didn’t get to see the team at full strength, we did learn some things about the young roster during the preseason.

Hopefully Cade Cunningham will be back from his ankle injury by the first game, but the team has been subtly lowering expectations for his return.

Cade’s injury has put a bit of a black cloud over the offseason, but I am not going to let that get me down, as now is the time when every fan should be optimistic, when every team has hope.

So I am going to put on my Homer #1 uniform and make some optimistic predictions for each player.

These will be short, sweet and filled with as much optimism as this hardened cynic can offer.

Detroit Pistons: Optimistic predictions for the bench veterans

Rodney McGruder: No offense to McGruder but the most optimistic prediction is that he rarely plays but offers veteran leadership from the bench. Sorry, Rodney!

Trey Lyles: Trey Lyles will hit 40 percent of his 3-point shots and be a weapon for the Pistons as a stretch-five.

Cory Joseph: Joseph will play well enough to get the Pistons two second-round picks at the trade deadline.

Isaiah Livers: Livers will dominate the G-League, come up later in the season and play well for the Detroit Pistons while becoming a fan favorite.

Saben Lee: Saben Lee will start at least 20 games this season and become the backup point guard after Joseph is traded.

Luka Garza: Garza will play in more than half of the Pistons’ games this season and will average a double/double over the last 15 games after being inserted into the rotation.
