A minor earthquake has been reported in northern Baxter County. The United States Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.1 quake was recorded 4.6 miles east-northeast of Midway Saturday afternoon at 3:29. The location is 5 miles north of Mountain Home, nearly 37 miles southwest of West Plains and over 42 miles east-northeast of Harrison.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.

Anyone who felt the quake can let the USGS know on its website.
