Cowboys 53-man roster vs Patriots: Lack of Tyron Smith concern in Week 6, Kelvin Joseph nears return

The Dallas Cowboys waited until the last minute in Week 6, but they did adjust their roster ahead of Sunday afternoon’s tilt with the New England Patriots. Out is backup offensive lineman Brandon Knight, who has served as a depth piece this season after starting a large majority of games at left tackle in 2020. Even with Tyron Smith showing up on the injury report this week and requiring an MRI on his neck, Dallas’ staff feels confident in what they have and what’s to come.

With Terence Steele manning the RT spot, only Ty Nsekhe is on the OT depth chart behind the two starters, indicating there isn’t much concern with Smith’s status this week. If the catastrophic happens and both starters go out, it’s likely Zack Martin slides outside to finish the game. Next week is a bye and La’el Collins will be back from his suspension for Week 8. By making the move on Saturday, the club has little worry Knight would be picked up on waivers by another club, allowing Dallas to bring him to the PS without much trouble.

The team needs FB Nick Ralston and TE Jeremy Sprinkle on special teams and has run out of the two-callups each are allotted, so they had to be elevated permanently.

The most interesting injury news though is that the 21-day practice window for rookie CB Kelvin Joseph and second-year TE Sean McKeon has opened up. Adding these depth pieces after the bye week will lengthen Dallas’ roster immensely.

Here’s a look at the 53 players Dallas has to choose their game-day roster from in Week 6.
