Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson could return for Week 11

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

The Russell Wilson injury dealt a serious blow to the Seattle Seahawks‘ playoff chances, but the star quarterback will have a shot to return for some key matchups down the stretch.

Wilson, who underwent surgery last week to repair a ruptured tendon in his middle finger, landed on injured reserve before Sunday’s game. He’s guaranteed to miss the next three games on the Seahawks’ schedule, but the organization knows his absence will likely stretch even longer.

Following some initial optimism that the Pro Bowl quarterback might return in four weeks, the latest injury update is providing a lengthier timeline.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Wilson returning within a month is unrealistic. Instead, Seattle hopes he returns to action before Thanksgiving, targeting the Week 11 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Entering Week 6, the Seahawks are turning to backup quarterback Geno Smith to fill the void. It will be his first NFL start in 1,413 days, but the organization has some reason for optimism after his strong fill-in performance against the Los Angeles Rams.

Unfortunately for Seattle, Russell Wilson’s injury came at the worst time. ALready three games back in the NFC West, the Seahawks are in the midst of a brutal stretch in their schedule. Likely underdogs in nearly every matchup without Wilson, playoff hopes are dwindling.
