Erling Haaland has thanked the Borussia Dortmund fans for providing him with motivation, saying that it is ‘an amazing feeling’ to hear them sing his name.

Erling Haaland marked his return from injury in incredible fashion as he scored a brace to lead Borussia Dortmund to a 3-1 win over Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon. After the game, he praised the Borussia Dortmund supporters and said that listening to them sing his name is an amazing feeling.

"When asked how it feels to hear the fans sing his name, Haaland said:“It’s an amazing feeling and I love it. For me it’s easy. This is so much motivation. It was all about me getting my body in shape again because my mind is in shape. That was my focus over the last couple of weeks. And now I am fit again and ready to go again.”"

There were a total of 63,812 supporters in attendance at the Signal Iduna Park for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon. It was the highest number of fans the Black and Yellows have had in the stadium since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the fans were in fine voice, as they cheered for every Borussia Dortmund tackle, block, shot and goal.

Like Haaland, Jude Bellingham also praised the Borussia Dortmund supporters and thanked them for their support. The 18 year old added that it was a privilege to play at the Signal Iduna Park in front of the fans.

"“For me as a player it’s a real privilege to play here, to play in front of these fans. I just thank them for accepting me. Obviously, it is my first season with fans. And I am so grateful that they have received me and my style of play. Whenever I get out there and I hear my name, I just want to win for the fans and my teammates.”"
