BROWNS

Browns vs. Cardinals: Staff Predictions

Akron Beacon Journal

The Browns went to Los Angeles and became the first team in NFL history to score 42 points with no turnovers ... and lose.

The defense could not stop Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and his cast of skill players and, despite a bounce-back game, quarterback Baker Mayfield could not lead the Browns to a game-winning drive in the 47-42 setback.

The Browns were hurt by a slew of injuries on defense, starting with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney being ruled out just before kickoff and defensive backs Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams and Troy Hill leaving the game at various points.

Kevin Stefanski took the blame for some questionable play calls in the game's final moments but has turned his attention to Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals, who visit FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday.

Here's how our Browns coverage team sees Sunday's game:

Game prediction: Browns 30-24. The Cardinals have been a good road team in recent years. Their road work this year includes wins over the Titans and Rams by a combined 55-33 score. They haven't been in an atmopshere like the one they will encounter on the lake.

Game prediction: Browns 27, Cardinals 24: Without their head coach Kliff Kingsbury, the unbeaten Cardinals may be scrambling to deal with COVID-19 issues up to gametime. Arizona is giving up 139 rushing yards per game (29th in the league), so Kareem Hunt, D'Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton can steal the show.

Game prediction: Tough call, but I'll ignore records and the fact running back Nick Chubb is out. It could be close and it also could be another shoot out. Either way, Browns 34, Cardinals 31.

Game prediction: Browns 31, Cardinals 27. Full disclosure: I had planned to pick the Cardinals in a nail-biter until they announced Friday night their head coach and offensive play caller, Kliff Kingsbury, would miss the game because of COVID-19.
