Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft are two of the high-profile owners in the NFL, so it’s interesting to hear about their relationship from each man.

Do you view each other as allies?

Jones: ”We’re allies relative to the growth and future and challenges the league has. We’re more often than not aligned. You aren’t aligned on every issue, but certainly we are aligned on most issues in both visions of the team being in our families for generations to come. Now, it’s not a natural partnership to compete the way we compete, and that is there. And all the nuances that go with it — jealousies, competitiveness, all the things that you have when it’s your team and your city against the other guy’s team and the other guy’s city. Now that is alive and well with us. But to his credit, not mine, he has managed to work through the competitiveness and natural at-odds that you have; he’s managed to work through that and helped me get through it.”

Kraft: ”The NFL is a funny business. Off the field, I view him as an ally. We are business partners who compete against each other in one of the most competitive industries in the world and we each have passionate fan bases. So, yes, as a business partner, he has been a great ally. He is one of the greatest salesmen I have ever known and has done a lot of great things with the revenue he has generated and reinvested in the Cowboys facilities and their brand. He is passionate about his team and that’s the kind of business partner you want. Someone who is invested in creating a brand in which we can all be proud to be associated.”

Hopefully the Cowboys will get Brandon Knight back on the practice squad.

Giants’ Kadarius Toney, Cowboys’ Damontae Kazee both fined; Jayron Kearse walks - Pat Leonard, New York Daily News

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney is fortunate he swung and missed with that punch last Sunday at Dallas.

Toney’s right hand is no worse for wear, and he escaped with a manageable $12,875 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct from the NFL, according to a source.

Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee, the player Toney swung at, also got a $6,264 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct for tossing and tackling Toney to the turf.

Dallas safety Jayron Kearse was not fined for his postgame punch of tight end Evan Engram after the Cowboys’ win, however. The NFL said it doesn’t have clear video of the incident.

So it appears the players will have to legislate that themselves when the Cowboys come to MetLife Stadium on Dec. 19.

Hard to argue Trevon Diggs isn’t Dallas’ most promising youngster, but there are others.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs looks like a different player in his second season. Diggs wasn’t terrible during his 12 starts as a rookie. But his confidence level has skyrocketed under new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, which has resulted in game-changing play from the defensive back in Year 2.

Diggs leads the NFL with six interceptions through five games, snagging one in every contest so far.

“He has a really good feel for the game,” New England Patriots quarterback and former Alabama teammate Mac Jones told reporters Wednesday “He’s very instinctual, very smart, fast, quick, explosive, strong, so he does it all really well.”

Admittedly, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb could easily usurp Diggs for this spot. However, the 24-year-old cornerback is now at the forefront of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year conversation and deserves recognition.

New England Patriots still seem to be trying to find their way without Tom Brady.

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won a game against the New England Patriots since 1996, losing six-straight meetings with the AFC’s former juggernaut. But as the two franchises prepare to clash tomorrow, we find the 2021 Patriots in a much different place as an organization and especially at quarterback than over the last two decades.

New England’s last five wins over Dallas have been under the watch of Bill Belichick and with Tom Brady as the starting QB. In three of those seasons the Patriots went on to play in the Super Bowl. The other two years, New England finished 12-4 in the regular season.

Things aren’t looking so bright for this year’s Patriots. They’re current 2-3 and those wins have come against the Jets and Texans, who are both just 1-4 so far in 2021. While New England does currently have the league’s 5th-best defense in yards and scoring, the offense is on the other end of the spectrum as the 7th-worst in those same categories.

The key culprit in this is rookie QB Mac Jones. A far cry from Tom Brady, Jones’ passer rating of 86.4 is among the lowest in the NFL. He’s thrown five picks already this year to only five touchdowns and is again one of the league’s worst with only 6.5 yards per attempt.

Rob Phillips: The Bucs’ defense has been the toughest matchup for the Cowboys’ offense so far. New England is arguably right there with Tampa Bay because you really have no idea what Bill Belichick will do from a tactical standpoint. I’m very curious to see what he does, because the Cowboys haven’t shown many weaknesses in five games. Carolina gave them some trouble for a half with weird looks and blitzes, and obviously left tackle Tyron Smith’s neck issue is something to monitor leading up to, and after, kickoff. But Dak Prescott has been outstanding against pressure this year. Ultimately, I just go back to what I’ve said the last three games: can the Patriots outscore the Cowboys over 60 minutes? (They’re averaging 19.2 so far.) If the Cowboys limit turnovers and don’t let the Patriots’ terrific special teams impact the game, I think they’ll win a relatively low-scoring contest, something like 27-21.

David Helman: I spoke very briefly with Zack Martin about the 2015 version of this game this week, and it’s all I’ve been able to think about since. If you can think back that far, a depleted Cowboys team put up a hell of a fight against the reigning champs, but they just couldn’t keep pace in the end and the Patriots wound up winning by 24. New England is scrappy enough and well-coached enough to keep this stressful for three quarters. Whether it’s with great defense or a special teams break or two, I bet it’ll be within a touchdown late in the game. My thing is that the Cowboys just have too much firepower. Over time, I trust Dak Prescott to find the weak spot, and I don’t think Mac Jones will be able to keep up. I’m thinking the Cowboys wind up winning this game by a score of 31-13, but it won’t be indicative of how close the game was for the first 50 minutes.
