UNDATED (WKRC) - A new phishing scam seems to be targeting Verizon users' personal information.
PhoneArena reports Verizon customers have been receiving texts from a sender claiming to be Verizon saying, "Verizon Free Msg: Sept bill is paid. Thanks, [customer name]! Here's a little gift for you," followed by a suspicious link.
Customers are asked not to click the link. If you do, you may be taken to a site asking you to fill out personal information that could be used to change the password to your Verizon account. This allows the scammer to take control of the account, buy new phones using your payment method and change the address so those phones ship to them.
PhoneArena says you can always call your cell phone carrier to see if a text message seemingly from them is legitimate.
