Reading Royals complete preseason schedule with 4-2 win over Adirondack Thunder

Frank DiChiara scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period and the Reading Royals went on to beat the Adirondack Thunder 4-2 in a preseason game Saturday at Santander Arena.

The game was the Royals’ first at home in 587 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Reading swept the preseason home-and-home series with Adirondack after winning 4-0 Friday.

The Royals took a 2-0 lead in the first period Saturday on goals by Grant Cooper and Patrick Bajkov.

The Thunder cut it to 2-1 on a goal by Ryan Smith at 12:29 of the first, then tied it on a power-play goal by Nick Rivera in the second.

Reading regained the lead when DiChiara scored on a one-timer on a power play at 17:47 of the second.

Jason Pritchard scored for the Royals in the third.

Pat Nagle finished with 22 saves for Reading. Pritchard had a goal and an assist, and Patrick McNally and Josh Winquist each had two assists.

Reading opens the regular season Friday at Norfolk, then hosts the Admirals the next night at Santander Arena at 7 p.m.
