Middlebury ran its winning streak to 21 games with a 4-1 road win at Colby (5-5, 1-5) on Saturday afternoon. The top-ranked Panthers (13-0, 8-0) return to action next Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. game at #7 Trinity.
After a scoreless first quarter, Middlebury took a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the second session with the 15th of the year by
Erin Nicholas. After an initial shot by
Joan Vera was saved, Nicholas pounced on the rebound for the 1-0 edge.
The Panthers doubled the advantage just over three minutes later when
Audrey Lazar finished with a sweeping shot for her 11th of the season
Middlebury made it a 3-0 game at the 38:49 mark with a goal on a penalty corner.
Amy Griffin inserted the ball, received it back, and then found
Isabel Chandler at the top of the circle for her fifth goal of the fall.
Caroline Segal scored the team's final goal of the day late in the third quarter. After taking a feed from
Katie George, Seagal took a quick shot in the middle for her fifth of the season.
Colby broke up the shutout when Jackie Hill scored after a scramble in front with just 1:05 remaining for the 4-1 final.
Middlebury had an impressive 27-1 advantage in penalty corners, while outshooting its opponent, 19-2.
Grace Harlan made one save in goal to earn her 13th victory of the season, while Hattie Baker made nine stops for the Mules.
