SHEBOYGAN (WLUK) -- Firefighters in Sheboygan say they put out a fire north of downtown Saturday afternoon, which they think was started by improper disposal of smoking materials.
At about 12:16 p.m., the Sheboygan Fire Department responded to a home in the 600 block of Superior Avenue, for multiple reports of a structure on fire.
Firefighters arrived to a porch fire, which extended to the second floor and attic.
Fire officials say they quickly brought it under control with the help of several neighboring departments.
Ten people are now without a home, and the American Red Cross is helping them.
Firefighters say it caused about $50,000 in damage.
The Sheboygan Fire Dept. also reminds people to put your cigarette in an ashtray or bucket with sand and use an ashtray with a wide base so they won't tip over and cause a fire.
