On Saturday, Pitt’s men’s basketball team took on Maryland in a ‘secret scrimmage,’ losing 72 to 56 at the Petersen Events Center according to Jeff Goodman.

According to Goodman, sophomore big man John Hugley led the way for Pitt with 14 points.

“He’s a wide body, he is getting in better shape, and he’s got really good hands,” head coach Jeff Capel said about Hugley after the team’s first practice. “He has a really good feel. He is a willing and capable passer, and he gives us something that we haven’t had in the three years I have been here. Hopefully he can continue to grow, and build, and get better and give us something that we haven’t had.”

Pitt officially opens its season with an exhibition vs. Gannon on Nov. 1, followed by a game against The Citadel on Nov. 9.
