BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 15, 2021)-Delaware State's Karen Cordero had a match-high 16 kills, while hitting .652 for the contest with just one error in 23 swings, as the visiting Hornets defeated Morgan State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest Friday evening at Hill Field House.
 
Delaware State (19-1, 7-0 MEAC) remained unbeaten in league play with the win, while extending its program-record winning streak to 15 straight.
 
The Hornets got a match-high 20 assists from Malgorzata Andersohn and Alayna Lacy added 17. Jasmal Cruz finished with a match-high nine digs. Delaware State would hit .358 for the contest as a team.
 
Morgan State (3-17, 1-5 MEAC), still in search of its first home victory of the season, was led by Gabriela Hiciano, who finished with eight kills. Jasmin Perry and Madison Grace each added five kills apiece. Mackenzie Jefferson totaled 19 assists and Tyasia McDuffie led the Lady Bears with seven digs.
 
The Lady Bears were limited to 23 kills for the match with 11 of them coming in the third set.
 
Delaware State totaled 42 kills and hit .358 as a team. The Hornets finished with nine service aces, but also committed 11 service errors. The held a 5.0-2.0 blocking advantage over the guests also out blocked Morgan State, 5.0-2.0. Maldonado led the way with four combined blocks, including a solo block. Sydney Lewis had three combined blocks, including a solo.
 
The Lady Bears will be on the road on Sunday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Princess Anne, Md., to face Maryland Eastern Shore. First serve is at 2 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center. The Hawks (8-9, 3-3 MEAC) were a 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-18) loser at Coppin State on Friday.
