Corvette C8’s Wireless Charging Is Useless

Although the Corvette C8 looks great on the outside and is still poster-worthy, a few features hold it back from its full potential. Perhaps the most disappointing part of the sportscar is its completely useless wireless charging feature, which you can learn more about below.

Chevy has made incredible sportscars for decades, and many kids grow up with posters of Corvette models on their walls, dreaming of owning one someday. Although the Corvette C8 looks great on the outside and is still poster-worthy, a few features hold it back from its full potential. Perhaps the most disappointing part of the sportscar is its completely useless wireless charging feature, which you can learn more about below.

Reviewers at GM Authority want everyone to know that the Chevy Corvette C8 is an overall excellent sportscar that they love. At the same time, however, it’s helpful to dig a little deeper and look beyond the incredible performance and stylish exterior. When analyzing the Corvette C8, they came up with a list of five things they don’t like about the car, which included a disappointing amount of trunk space and a less exciting driving experience than the C7.

Interestingly, the C8 has two trunk compartments, in the front and back, but the total amount of usable cargo space still makes it less practical for those who want to haul around their gear. Keeping that in mind, most people don’t buy a Corvette C8 based on their desire for a practical everyday vehicle

Compared to the C7, the C8 also isn’t quite as powerful. This makes it much quieter inside the cabin, which many consumers are bound to prefer over raw power, but those who long for a C8 thinking it will be as aggressive as the C7 will be left disappointed. Although these drawbacks are relatively mild, the utterly useless wireless charging feature could be downright annoying for most C8 owners.

The less-than-ideal wireless charging setup

Charging your phone or another similar device with wireless charging is supposed to be more convenient than plug-in charging. Wireless charging is often an optional, though costly, addition to everyday vehicles. It allows drivers to place their phones in a compartment or on a platform to juice them up. Wireless charging is usually located toward the front of the vehicle, so drivers can still use navigational apps or use text-to-speech to communicate while on the go.

Strangely, the wireless charging dock in the Corvette C8 is between the driver and passenger seats in an awkward and difficult-to-reach position. Trying to put the phone in the wireless charging setup probably takes more time than plugging it in, and attempting to get it out definitely takes more time than unplugging it from a wired charger.

This probably isn’t a big deal to most Corvette C8 owners, but it would have been better to place the wireless charging dock almost anywhere else for a superior driving experience.

Still, the Chevy Corvette C8 has plenty of pros

Despite the handful of drawbacks to the Corvette C8, it’s still an outstanding sportscar overall. The reviewers at U.S. News were just as delighted by it as those from GM Authority, rating it highest among all luxury sports cars in 2021.

From U.S. News, it garnered an impressive 9.1/10, with a whopping 9.7 for critics’ rating and 9.3 for performance. The only “low” score came from the interior, though no safety or reliability ratings are yet available to factor in. This sports car can go from 0 to 60 MPH in under 3 seconds, thanks to its 490-horsepower, 6.2-liter, V8 engine.

Despite its eye-popping top speed of 194 mph, the Corvette still handles smoothly around tight curves, and its transmission shifts easily and intuitively. The 2021 Chevy Corvette C8 starts at $59,900, though there is plenty of room to customize it however you like.
