STATESBORO, Ga. – The UAB rifle team fell 4,612-4,542 to Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Eagles' Shooting Sports Education Center.
 
Sophia Flores paced the Blazers with a sixth-place overall finish with an aggregate score of 1,139. Flores tallied UAB's top marks in the smallbore and air rifle, finishing fourth in the air rifle with a score of 578 and seventh in the smallbore with a tally of 561.
 
Amy Kohan finished just one spot behind Flores with an aggregate score of 1,138, placing eighth in the smallbore (561) and fifth in air rifle (577). Maggie Vonderau rounded out UAB's top three individual finishers with an eighth-place aggregate score of 1,135.
 
Georgia Southern earned the Southern Conference victory behind a school-record tally of 2,289 in the smallbore. UAB's air rifle aggregate score of 2,305 trailed the Eagles' air rifle tally by just 18 points.
 
UAB will return to the range on Oct. 30 for a match at Wofford.
