Southern California residents experienced above-average temperatures Saturday, Oct. 16, but we’re in for a change early in the week, forecasters said.

Cooler weather is expected Monday before a mid-week warm-up.

Light rain and drizzle in some coastal areas and valleys also are forecast for early Monday.

And an above-normal precipitation outlook for all of California should begin Friday.

“Northern California looks like they’ll get the potential for a lot of rain, but we have a slightly above-normal outlook in Southern California as well,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist James Brotherton.

Despite chilly nighttime temperatures, brief sudden temperature spikes due to seasonal Santa Ana offshore winds are still expected, Brotherton said.

A red flag warning for heightened fire conditions in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties remained in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday due to humidity drops in the inland areas.

Highs in Saturday’s forecast included 91 degrees in Downtown Los Angeles, 88 degrees in Orange and 90 in Corona.

Projected Monday temperatures, according to the NWS:

Downtown Los Angeles: 67

Fullerton: 68

Long Beach: 67

Mission Viejo: 66

Redlands: 67

Riverside: 69

San Bernardino: 69

Torrance: 66

Van Nuys: 67

Whittier: 69
