Bill Mutz, “I’m still all in for all of Lakeland” just not my family

Editorial

Pam and Bill Mutz should be ashamed of themselves.

They have been using their daughter Emma which is intellectually disabled with Downs Syndrome.

Emma is a very nice young lady but she may not understand what is going on.

Pam has been driving Emma around Lakeland and Emma has been placing Mutz campaign signs on property’s that they have no permission to have the signs on.

Pam and Bill should be Emma’s protectors even if she is a legal adult. They should never put her in harm’s way.

Why would they do this?

They know it’s wrong to place signs in right away and on a property, they do not have permission to use.

  1. My wife and I attended the debate on October 1. We were very attentive. The Mayor had his daughter in the parking lot handing out Campaign Information. It was the daughter mentioned in the article. There was no one else in the parking lot handing out any campaign information. During the debate, the same daughter gave her father a bottle of water. During the question portion from the attendees, Mrs. Mutz allowed their daughter to take the microphone and say I love you daddy. This was a time for serious questions to be asked. With this, the article is true because we were appauled at the debate to see how they use her for manipulation.

    1. The Mutz’s have clearly exploited a young woman with down-syndrome for their own political goals.

  2. As the parent of a child with Down syndrome, I’m disgusted by this post and the comments. From the super narrow-mindedness of Emma’s abilities to even the misspelling of her diagnosis. At three years old, my son understands so much and we treat him just like any other parent treats/raises their “typical” child. Emma is an adult and old enough to vote. She should have a place at the table just like everyone else.

“During the question portion from the attendees, Mrs. Mutz allowed their daughter to take the microphone and say I love you daddy. This was a time for serious questions to be asked”. To this comment … if you want to talk about serious questions being asked how about we talk about the question that was asked that the Mayor has no power over. For example, the question about “Polk County School LBGTQ+ Month question” – the Mayor does not influence the school board. So this question should have never been asked.

The Mutz’s are protecting their child. They’re allowing her to be involved just like all of their other children and anyone else that wants to be involved. She has rights. She has abilities. She has a voice and deserves to be heard.

    1. This has nothing Down syndrome. This has to do with Parents’ respect for their children. They had Emma place signs on a lot where they do NOT have permission.

      1. Then why did you bring any attention to her diagnosis or question her “understandings”?

      2. How can you possibly say this isn’t about Down syndrome? The first sentence of what you wrote (don’t want to call it an article because that sounds too much like journalism which this is not) references Down syndrome, calls her intellectually challenged and questions her understanding. This whole thing is tone deaf, offensive and uninformed. Mayor Mutz has set an extremely high standard as a man of integrity and family values. He’s raised children into adulthood who still love and respect him which is the high goal of parenthood. How absurd.

        1. Who is at fault, the daughter blindly following her parents because of a medical condition or the parents that use the daughter for political gain???????

          1. You are at fault. Making assumptions instead of getting to the know the individual and all of their abilities.

  3. This is garbage. I’d make my kids pass out flier and puts signs in the ground if I was running an election.

  4. Nic,

During ANY election NO CHILDREN of any opponent needs to take the microphone at a debate! No matter what!

The debate and questions from REGISTERED VOTERS was timed and Emma took up the time for a RELEVENT QUESTION. Whoever was standing in the aisles were allowed to ask a question. Emma DID NOT have a question and should have been told by her parents that it was NOT the time nor the place for her public display of affection. That should be kept for home and NOT IN THE MAYORAL DEBATE IN A PUBLIC ARENA!

Let’s get SERIOUS and look at Mutz’s record!!! VOTE HIM OUT LAKELAND!

    1. Many questions were asked that were not relevant. The lady who asked a question that was a school board question? The question that had already been addressed in a prior question. These took up time for a question that others might have had But, anyone that wanted to stand up and get in line was able to ask a question.

  5. Also, at the October 1 debate…rules were set for BOTH candidates…NO ONE WAS ALLOWED TO HAND OUT FLIERS IN THE PARKING LOT BEFORE THE DEBATE.

Mutz used his daughter so no one would confront them since she is “special”.

The candidates were allowed to pass out information INSIDE at the debate once people ENTERED THE ROOM!

Why does the Mutz family have to play dirty?

  6. Nic,
It is time to see that you are young and you have no idea what politics is about. Politics is not for those who do not have a total grasp on the world around us. You need to see the facts that if Emma was asking questions as an adult, then that is one thing. In this case, there was no question asked! She is not capable of comprehending a serious issued question like “Why did you listen to BLM to move a 111 year old monument that is NOT offensive” or “Why did you praise a BLM Activist on Instagram in a letter?”….Emma is probably a very sweet young lady, but time to get real and state that “I love you daddy” was NOT a question and took the time and place for REAL QUESTIONS!

No one is making fun nor condeming those with a birth defect due to a different chromasome. It is the manipulation of them using Emma because she is a DS individual and people would be shamed and flogged if they were to say anything to her! No one told her to leave the parking lot because of her DS….FACTS MATTER!

    1. I just urge you to become more educated about those around you. A Trisomy 21 diagnosis isn’t caused by having a different chromosome but instead due to having an extra one. So Emma is more like you then you know/think.

  7. Each person with Down syndrome is an individual — intellectual and developmental problems may be mild, moderate or severe. Some people are healthy while others have significant health problems such as serious heart defects.

    INTELLECTUAL PROBLEMS….MILD, MODERATE OR SEVERE.

    Straight from Mayo Clinic.

So, the conclusion AGAIN is……it was inappropriate to use a DS undividual to break the rules at the debate, take the place of a registered voter with a serious issue question, and interrupt the debate by giving her father water. It was all inappropriate! It was not cute.

    1. This entire “article” and comments are inappropriate. If we want to talk about questions that were asked that took up time then we should talk about all of them and that’s what this “article” should have addressed.

Instead you and the writer of this “article” (who could even be the same person since you don’t disclose your name) have chosen to view those who are differently abled as less than.
