Voucher for YMCA available for young Medicaid members

North Carolina YMCAs are partnering with UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina, a Medicaid health insurance company, to provide eligible youth age 6 to 18 with a $75 voucher they can use at the Y. The prepaid health plan is providing Medicaid members with this value-added service, in addition to health insurance, to support total health, stated a YMCA press release.

At the YMCA of South Hampton Roads’ three locations in North Carolina – the Albemarle Family YMCA, the Outer Banks Family YMCA and the Currituck Family YMCA – a variety of age-appropriate programs and opportunities are available that the $75 voucher can be used for, such as youth sports, swim lessons and teen programming. If there are additional costs, financial assistance is available so that that all children and teens can benefit from Y programs.

To request a youth voucher, UnitedHealthcare parent or adult members may contact UnitedHealthcare’s member services at 1-800-349-1855 (Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.). Once authorized, UnitedHealthcare members can bring their UnitedHealthcare member ID to the Y to register for their package. The vouchers are non-transferable, are not redeemable for cash and expire a year after date of issue from the insurer. Eligible youth may receive one voucher per year.
