Some West Orange apartments will be torn down due to the impact of the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
On Monday, dozens of families who live in 275 Northfield Ave. were told to evacuate just before midnight. They were told that the property was unstable and were forced to leave with only some belongings.
They have been staying in hotels since. The storm six weeks ago triggered a rockslide and downed tree behind the apartment building. The hillside, just a few feet away from the building, is apparently the source of the issue.
Residents told News 12 that they were told the situation can't be rectified until the building is demolished. They have been able to pick up belongings at designated times.
News 12 has reached out to the property manager for comment.
