Celtic handed major injury boost for Ferencvaros game

Celtic will play for more than just three points when they take on Ferencvaros in their upcoming Europa League group stage game. It was the Hungarian side who had knocked them out of the Champions League qualifying phase last season and that can be pointed out as the moment when things started to go off the track in the 2020/21 campaign, one of the most disappointing in the club’s history.

Celtic find themselves in a tough spot in their Europa League group right now, having lost both of their games in the competition till now. Ferencvaros are also in a similar position though.

Thus, if the Hoops are to have any hope of qualifying for the knockout phase of the competition, they might very well need to win their upcoming couple of games, home and away, against Ferencvaros.

There is some positive news going into the first game, set to be played at Parkhead. Adam Montgomery missed out today against Motherwell but he should be available. While speaking with Chick Young of BBC Radio Scotland and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said:

"“We’ll see how everyone pulls up. Adam Montgomery, as I said, missed out today, but he should be available.”"

Montgomery has become the first-choice left-back for Celtic in recent weeks

Montgomery has become a big part of this Celtic team this season. Following Greg Taylor’s injury, he has become the first-choice left-back in Postecoglou’s side despite being just 19 years of age.

His performances have been mixed recently. Early on, he was absolutely brilliant when on the pitch and there were even calls for him to start even when Taylor was fit and available. In recent weeks though, his displays have appeared to leave a bit to be desired.

But that is expected. He is still a teenager and this is just part of the learning curve for him. In ideal circumstances he would not be starting regularly for this team at this early stage of his career. Whatever may be the case though, it is good news that he will be available moving forward.
