Aquebogue, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Nonprofits are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest after a cat was found shot with a pellet on Long Island.

The cat was rescued Friday near the intersection of Southfields Road and West Lane in Aquebogue with a pellet lodged in its spine, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

The Suffolk County SPCA and Strong Island Rescue have teamed up to offer a total reward of $4,000 for tipsters who could lead to the assailant.

The male cat, an orange tabby named Abraham by its rescuers, is currently in the care of Frankie Florida of Strong Island Animal Rescue.

“This horrific attack is a reminder of the dangers that cats face when they are left outdoors unprotected,” the Suffolk County SPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “New York State laws, that include Intentionally harming an animal, are a crime and punishable with imprisonment and or a fine.”
