DEFOREST, Wis. — A Columbus man arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash in DeForest has been charged.

Eric Luis Schroder, 54, was arrested earlier this week for his alleged involvement in the crash that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

Schroder is charged with one count of hit and run causing great bodily harm, according to online court records.

DeForest police said they were able to identify the semi-truck involved in the crash thanks to a tip from an area resident.

“These types of cases are not solved in a vacuum,” Chief James Olson said. “The community has played an integral role in this investigation, and we are eternally grateful for their partnership and support.”

As of Friday, the victim was still hospitalized.
