Holy team up, Batwoman! A brand new promo for The CW’s Batwoman just rolled out at the DC FanDome virtual event has teased this season’s big twist: Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) and arch-villain Alice (Rachel Skarsten) are being forced to team up. Totally groovy, or harshing your mellow? You decide!

In the minute long clip, we pick up from the end of the Season 3 premiere as Alice is remanded to Batwoman’s custody by Gotham City Police Department’s Renee Montoya (Victoria Cartagena). Renee wants Batwoman and Alice to find the villain relics that went missing from the Batcave at the end of Season 2, and shut Gotham’s newly resurgent maniac population down, for good.

Obviously, that doesn’t go down well with Team Batwoman, who look on in disgust as Alice stands hand-cuffed in the Batcave. Even the criminals are confused why the hero and villain are teaming up, to which Alice helpfully explains, “they’re a little short staffed at City Hall.”

Cut together like a vintage, 1960s era Batman promo, albeit with the gritty, realistic footage that has become The CW hit’s hallmark, it’s an odd fit — but a funny one, particular when we get to the final title card that teases the show may now be called Batwoman and Alice.

And honestly? It’s been a long time coming. Pretty much from the second Skarsten’s stand-out Alice appeared, it was clear that for the life of the character, and the show, she would have to come over to the side of the angels eventually. Happily, it’s not without duress, and will only serve to aggravate Ryan more than usual. It also means we’ll see more of Alice integrated into the main action, rather than off in her own slow redemption storyline. And that’s a good thing.

Watch the promo above, and Batwoman airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
