GRIMESLAND, N.C. Methodist's
Drew Topoly registered a top-10 Friday afternoon at the ECU Pirate Invitational, running to an eighth-place finish in a field of nearly 100 runners in the men's 8-kilomoter race.
Topoly's time of 25 minutes, 12.1 seconds was the fastest of the Division III runners in the meet, trailing only D-I entrants from UNC-Greensboro and host East Carolina University.
As a squad, the Methodist men were fifth of 12 teams with 150 points. UNC-Greensboro took the team title with 30 points.

MONARCH NOTES
- The Methodist men were the top-finishing non-Division I team in the final standings, only 36 points behind fourth-place Coastal Carolina University.
- After Topoly, the Monarchs' next four scoring runners crossed the finish line each separated by roughly a minute. Xavier McLamb (27:19.9) nearly cracked the top 25, coming in 31st, and was followed by Will Gray (28:05.1) in 39th.
- The other two scoring runners, Victor Sobun (52nd, 29:10.4) and Austin Ezzell (62nd, 30:16.8) continued the trend of a one-minute separation between Monarchs.
- Almost jumping into the scoring five for Methodist was Jackson Barriger (30:33.5), who was right behind Ezzell in 63rd.
- Methodist's two women in the 6K were Caroline Stubblefield (27:08.6) and Madison Pompey (28:16.6). Stubblefield was 63rd and Pompey 72nd within a field of 102 runners.
