Peacemaker trades shots with Vigilante, schools Amanda Waller’s team on “butt babies” and dances in his tighty whities in the latest teaser for HBO Max‘s spinoff of The Suicide Squad.
Concurrent with the release of the teaser above, it was announced at DC FanDome this weekend that Peacemaker will kick off its eight-episode run on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022.
Peacemaker explore the origins of the character that John Cena first portrayed in writer/director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad — “a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.”
The series also stars Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee (reprising their The Suicide Squad roles as ARGUS agent Emilia Harcourt and ARGUS aide John Economos); Chukwudi Iwuji (Designated Survivor) as Amanda Waller’s No. 1, Clemson Murn; and Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black) as ARGUS recruit Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Robert Patrick (Scorpion) plays Peacemaker aka Chris Smith’s dad, Auggie; Freddie Stroma (UnREAL) plays Vigilante aka Adrian Chase; and Nhut Le (Kroll Show) plays Judomaster.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed five, including the premiere. Gunn, Peter Safran and Matt Miller serve as executive producers on the series, while Cena has a co-EP title.

This looks great! So excited for it!
IIRC, the super-majority of TVLine readers responded they would NOT watch this spinoff series? Really curious to see if reader opinion changes based on this trailer.
.
(I voted I wouldn’t watch, but yes, I’ll try episode 1 and then make up my mind.)
I mean, trailer looks good. But I just really hated him in The Suicide Squad. And after he killed Rick I just don’t see me giving this a chance.
I still can’t believe Gunn killed off Rick and Boomerang.
I’m not clear on whether this series is a sequel to the film, a prequel, or both.
This trailer did very little to clear that up.
Prequel
Nope it’s a Direct Sequel to The Suicide Squad Film by James Gunn.
Or both!
As I said: confusing.
Looks like they’re making Vigliante a joke too. I like Gunn but it’s starting to look like he can only do goofy characters with no one being serious. Not sure that always works; some contrast makes the lead stand out.
I mean, Vigilante IS a joke, though. The more seriously a comic asks me to take Vigilante, the funnier the joke is.
Spoken like someone who has never read any of the original (modern) Vigilante stories, some even by Alan Moore. It was doing adult issues long before most of the other comics jumped on the bandwagon. Peacemaker was always a little silly. Vigilante was not.
DC has lacked the levity that propelled the Marvel properties so not surprised they are going this route. I will certainly give it a watch although I did not particularly care for his character in the sequel. I honestly didn’t care for several decisions Gunn made for the sequel. It was no Guardians.
