What to Know

Newcastle United's and Tottenham Hotspur's time off is coming to an end as we head into Matchweek 8. They are meeting up for their first leg of the season at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday at St. James' Park. Last year, Newcastle and Spurs were perfect equals, playing to 1-1 and 2-2 draws.

It was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, but Newcastle was not quite Wolverhampton's equal in the second half when they met two weeks ago. The Magpies fell a goal short of Wolves, losing 2-1.

Speaking of close games: Tottenham dodged a bullet last week, finishing off Aston Villa 2-1.

Tottenham Hotspur's victory lifted them to 4-3 (eighth place with 12 points) while Newcastle United's defeat dropped them down to 0-4-3 (19th place with three points). Allowing an average of 2.29 points per game, Newcastle hasn't exactly asserted themselves on the defensive end. We'll see if they can patch up the holes in their defense before their upcoming contest.
