I’ve been blaring “Dispatch to 16th Ave” by Muscadine Bloodline All. Week. Long.
First off, you’ve gotta respect what ol’ Gary and Charlie are doing right now. They refuse to bow down to big time Nashville labels and sign their lives away, and they’re making whatever kind of country music they want.
They came to Nashville and said, “We’re going to do things our way, and this is how we’re gonna do it.”
From honky-tonkers like “Dyin’ For a Livin’,” to dirt-road anthems like “Damn, I Need a Dirt Road,” and they can even fire up a little sappy love song like “Can’t Tell You No.”
They’re arguably the most diverse country duo in all of country music, and I’m 100% here for it.
I think they took everything to another level after “Dispatch to 16th Ave.” though, as it’s a pure shot at the country music culture of Nashville. And if you wanna do things the way Willie, Waylon, and the boys did it, you ain’t gonna make it.
Just an all-around genuine song about the tough reality that is the country music industry.
Another thing I like about Muscadine Bloodline is their ability to take every one of their songs, strip it down, and perform them acoustically.
Seriously, their pickin’ skills are through the roof, and some may argue these acoustic performances are even better than the studio versions, which is saying a lot.
