She was a graduate of Strongsville High School, where she met the love of her life, Leo Sayles. The couple married on July 16, 1955. After graduation, Leo and Shirley ran the Sayles Pharmacy and the Highlander Center in Strongsville. In 1977, the family relocated to Sullivan, Ohio and opened The Sullivan Market.

Shirley was previously a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Strongsville, Ohio and was more recently a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wellington, Ohio. Shirley enjoyed keeping up with technology, crocheting, and gardening, especially caring for her cactuses. She also loved going on family vacations. She was very close to her grandchildren, and she did her best to see as many of her great-grandchildren's sporting and school events as possible. She loved her family.

Shirley is survived by her children, Melanie Hawley, Leo (Emily) Sayles, Jr., and Leslie Denbow; grandchildren, Matt (Ann) Hawley, Laura (Matt) DeVore, Morgan (Derek) Niedermier, Mary (Ryan) Besecker, Bret (Ashley) Hawley, Heather (Josh) Morgenstern, Ashley (Braden) Harigan, Sarah (Steve) Christman, Andrea (Steve) Jenkins, and Leo Sayles III; 20 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Henry Klink and Richard Klink.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Sayles; sons-in-law, Dan Hawley and Bryan Denbow; and siblings, Donna Peeples, John Klink, Robert Klink, and Mary Tibbitts.

Keeping with Shirley's wishes, she will be cremated. Her family is planning a memorial service to honor Shirley's memory at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
