The wait for Jarvis Landry's return to game action will continue.

The Browns (3-2) won't activate the five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver by 4 p.m. Saturday, meaning he will not be eligible to face the Arizona Cardinals (5-0) on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, a league source said.

Landry returned to practice Friday after the Browns announced earlier in the morning they had designated him to return from injured reserve.

Landry will miss his fourth consecutive game with the sprained medial collateral ligament he suffered Sept. 19 against the Houston Texans. By rule, a player on IR must miss at least three games.

When Landry spoke Tuesday to a small group of reporters, including the Beacon Journal's Marla Ridenour, he said the Browns' upcoming three-game homestand is "a perfect time" to come back.

That points to Landry completing his comeback Thursday night against the Denver Broncos or Oct. 31 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both games will be in Cleveland.

Landry is among the Browns' top leaders and playmakers.

He has caught six passes for 80 yards and rushed twice for 13 yards and a touchdown this season. He played in the Sept. 12 opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, then suffered the knee injury on the second play from scrimmage against the Texans in Week 2.

With injuries at tackle, Cleveland Browns promote Alex Taylor from practice squad

The Browns announced Saturday they signed offensive tackle Alex Taylor to the active roster from the practice squad in addition to elevating defensive tackle Sheldon Day and cornerback Herb Miller from the practice squad to the active roster.

Starting offensive tackles Jack Conklin (knee) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle) were labeled questionable by the Browns on Friday to face the Cardinals. If necessary, rookie fourth-round pick James Hudson III would fill in for Conklin at right tackle and Blake Hance would replace Wills at left tackle.

The Browns also announced they waived tight end Connor Davis from IR.
