A good Samaritan is sharing her story of how she was able to save two lives in a fiery car crash in Bridgeport that left one person dead.
April Barron, of Bridgeport, says she will never forget what authorities say was a multi-vehicle crash that resulted from a rear-end collision on Route 8 near Exit 3 southbound on Friday.
The accident resulted with one person losing her life in a burning car.
State police identified the victim as 37-year-old Tifanny Benjamin, of Rockaway, New York.
Barron was not only an eyewitness – authorities say she was a "very good Samaritan" who rushed to rescue several victims, including two nuns, one of whom passed out in front of her.
Barron says she pulled over, got out of her car and assisted the startled nuns.
She says she has a newfound respect for the first responders because of what they went through as they desperately attempted to save a woman who could not be saved due to smoke and flames.
Barron says she also tried to save the woman, but there was just no way for her to do so.
Barron says every time she sees the cellphone video that was taken of the accident, it brings her back to the scene, which makes her feel helpless and heartbroken as she wonders how the victim's surviving family will move forward in the wake of their tragedy. She says she would have done anything to ensure a different outcome.
"You get numb, you understand? You really, really get numb knowing that somebody in the car can't be rescued," Barron says. "You're here one day, and the next hour, you could be gone."
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Connecticut State Police.
