Georgia appears well on its way to making its 4th SEC Championship Game appearance in 5 years and can make a further case for itself if it beats Kentucky on Saturday at Sanford Stadium.

The picture’s a little murkier in the SEC West, though, as several teams, including Alabama, are carrying a loss. That being said, it’s probably still Alabama’s division to lose at this point as Nick Saban is sure to have his team out to show that a defeat at Texas A&M was just a bump in the road.

Georgia and Alabama infamously met in the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship Game and then again in the 2018 SEC Championship Game 11 months later, with the first game ending in Devonta Smith’s title-winning overtime touchdown catch and the 2nd featuring a disastrous fake punt by Georgia that saw Alabama later drive for the eventual winning touchdown. There’s also the Dawgs’ loss to the Tide in Tuscaloosa in 2020 where Smith torched the Georgia secondary.

The 2 teams look on course to meet again on Dec. 5 in Atlanta. And Paul Finebaum feels that the Dawgs have the edge over the Tide right now.

”Everyone know how much I ‘love’ the University of Alabama, but right now, Georgia is a better team. I’m going with Georgia,” he said on the SEC Network’s “SEC Nation”, to applause and cheers from the Bulldogs fans gathered at the Special Collections Library on the UGA campus.

”Who’s winning the SEC Championship?” Tim Tebow asked.

”I’m going with Georgia,” Finebaum replied. “I don’t know Alabama. Who’s Alabama?”
