The Washington Wizards closed out the preseason in a loss to the New York Knicks. But it was another loss that is more troubling.

Three-time all-star Bradley Beal exited Friday’s game with a right knee contusion. He played nine minutes and shot 2-of-4 from the field for five points.

Following the 115-113 loss, Wizards head coach Wes Unseld Jr. provided an update on Beal.

“We don’t know the extent,” Unseld told reporters per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports. “I don’t believe it’s anything substantial.”

Beal will be evaluated on Saturday and the Wizards will go from there, according to Unseld.

The regular season starts Wednesday for the Wizards at the Toronto Raptors. Beal’s status being up in the air will be concerning as the season opener approaches.

The Wizards finished the preseason 0-4, as the team works on continuity with their revamped roster and a new head coach. All of which marches to the beat of Beal. He’s looking to average 30 points per game for the third consecutive season.

Hopefully his efforts won’t start with a hampering knee injury.
