Meet the Mets

While there have been rumors that the Mets may be interested in prying David Stearns away from the Brewers to serve as their new president of baseball operations, he suggested that he has no interest in moving to a new team.

Ken Davidoff of the NY Post contemplated the circumstances which would have to play out in order for Carlos Beltran to get another chance at managing after his abrupt departure from the Mets two years ago.

Francisco Lindor, Jeff McNeil, and James McCann all had disappointing 2021 seasons to varying degrees, but there are still reasons to feel hopeful about all three of them moving forward.

Around the National League East

Brian Snitker expressed confidence in Max Fried, who the Braves are turning to for Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, while talking to the media about a variety of topics in anticipation for the series.

The Nationals are planning on signing former Diamondbacks hitting coach Darnell Coles to fill the same role on their 2022 squad.

The Good Phight offered a review of Jean Segura’s 2021 season in which he was one of the more consistent players on the Phillies roster.

Fish Stripes also contributed season reviews for Sandy Alcántara and Elieser Hernandez.

Around Major League Baseball

Enrique Hernandez hit two homers for the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALCS, but the Astros got two homers of their own—a sixth inning two-run homer by Jose Altuve to tie the game, and a seventh inning go-ahead homer by Carlos Correa—to give them a 5-4 victory over Boston.

Altuve is now tied with Derek Jeter for third on the all-time postseason home run list.

The Dodgers still need to figure out their pitching plans for the NLCS after using Max Scherzer to save Game 5 of their series against the Giants.

Max Muncy is unlikely to be available for the NLCS following his injury at the end of the season.

The Giants suffered a devastating loss in the playoffs, but there is still plenty for them to feel good about after a shockingly excellent 2021 season.

After his surprising and mysterious departure from the Cardinals, former manager Mike Shildt will apparently make a statement on Monday.

Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue

Chris McShane reviewed the performance of the 2021 Mets bullpen.
