The Yorkville City Council on Tuesday voted to approve its tax levy estimate. This isn't necessarily the final number the city will ask for, but establishes the max the city council can request. The estimate is at around $4.4-million, which includes the levy for the Yorkville Public Library. City Administrator Bart Olson says it is an increase over the previous levy.

Taxing bodies have to ask for a higher amount than they think they might receive to avoid leaving funds on the table. Alderman Chris Funkhouser said the city council should consider limiting its tax ask this year.

The city council will have a public hearing on the tax levy in November ahead of voting on it. The hearing could be as early as the first meeting in November on the 9th.
