Southampton vs Leeds team news

In their eighth game of the new Premier League season, Southampton are still hunting for their first win of the season.

Today’s opponents Leeds United often prove to be a formidable force to go up against, but they will be arriving at St Mary’s wounded with a number of key players set to miss out with injury.

Leeds linchpin Kalvin Phillips is a fitness doubt with the calf injury that ruled him out of international football action with England last week.

Meanwhile, first team players Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford and Robin Koch are all confirmed to miss out with injury.

Raphinha is also not expected to play a big role for Leeds today, having only just played for Brazil on Friday morning before a long flight back to England.

Southampton aren’t without selection issues of their own.

Saints captain James Ward-Prowse will begin his three-match ban today following the red card he picked up against Chelsea last time out.

Striker Che Adams returned from international duty injured and will miss out along with Jack Stephens who is recovering from the knee injury sustained against Manchester City in September.

Stuart Armstrong is a nearing a return, but it’s unlikely he will be rushed back.
