Test your carving skills in Downtown Taunton Foundation's Pumpkin Extravaganza

TAUNTON — Put those pumpkin carving skills to the test, in the Downtown Taunton Foundation's second annual Pumpkin Extravaganza.

This contest, which is open to the public, will display carved pumpkins at Liberty & Union Park as well as on Main Street in downtown Taunton.

Pumpkins will be on display from Friday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Oct. 31, the City of Taunton announced in a Facebook post.

Weather permitting, pumpkins will be lit on Oct. 22, 23, 29, 30 and 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Put those pumpkin carving skills to the test, in the Downtown Taunton Foundation's second annual Pumpkin Extravaganza.

For everyone's safety, the pumpkins are being lit with battery-powered lights.

This contest is open to individuals, groups, organizations and businesses. Carvings should be suitable for all ages.

To register and receive contest guidelines, email ekelleher@downtowntaunton.org with your name and/or group name and the name of your pumpkin by Monday, Oct. 18.

Drop off pumpkins at Trescott Street Gallery on Thursday, Oct. 21, between 1 and 6 p.m., or at Liberty & Union Park on Friday, Oct. 22, between 3 and 5 p.m.

Judging will take place on Friday, Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and winners will be marked with ribbons and announced on Facebook. Photos of all the entries will also be posted to Facebook.

Ribbons will be awarded for the most creative, scariest, and funniest carvings.

Bonus: once you're done carving, you can roast those pumpkin seeds and indulge in a savory fall snack.
