Don George was a bulldozer operator on the Dixie Fire when he lost almost everything including his home to the Fawn Fire in September. Saturday he is expected to get a brand new RV from Emergency RV.
"Don told us that he was working on the Dixie Fire today and will be Saturday, working 12 hour shifts," said Woody Faircloth of Emergency RV. "He has such a big family and ended up losing so much while working to save so much, this was well deserved for him."
In a past interview George says he has been working on fires around the state for nearly 50 years.
For now, Woody says that George and his family are staying at an RV park in Redding in need of help.
"Don, his wife and twin sons, who are caregivers for their disabled mom, have been homeless since the fire. He broke down into tears when I told him @emergencyrv planned to help him with this transitional home. He told me that he just couldn’t believe that anyone would be willing to do this for someone like him," Woody wrote in a Facebook post announcing that Don would receive the RV.
Woody says the RV should come sometime late Saturday afternoon. He and his 9-year-old daughter have been driving around the country dropping off free homes for certain survivors of natural disasters. They started doing this, Woody says, after the Camp Fire.
