Leeds United make the long trip south from West Yorkshire to take on a Southampton side who are hunting after their first win of the Premier League season on Saturday.

Both teams are known for their work rate and high pressing up the pitch, but like Saints, Leeds have some issues when it comes to picking a full-strength squad on 16 October.

In his pre-match briefing, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that multiple first-team stars are either confirmed to miss out on game time at St Mary’s Stadium.

Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Robin Koch are certainties to miss out. Meanwhile Kalvin Phillips faces a late fitness test and is a big doubt.

Phillips missed the latest round of England’s World Cup qualifiers with a calf injury. Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, who will be out on Saturday through suspension, took his place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad.

Leeds’ pacy Brazilian hitman Raphinha is also a doubt. His availability depended on how many minutes he played for his country on Friday morning.

Raphinha starred in Brazil’s 4-1 win over Uruguay, playing for 70 minutes and scoring twice to essentially seal their qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

This means he would not have left the stadium until the early hours of Friday morning (the game started at 01:30 BST) before embarking on the long flight back to the UK. Only 34 hours separate the two games.
