Thomas R. Lutz 1938-2021

PARIS TOWNSHIP — Thomas Richard Lutz, 82, of Paris Township, passed on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, while on his way to his residence.

Thomas was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Windham, the son of Daniel and Hazel Kollars Lutz. On Aug. 27, 1940, the United States government announced that land would be purchased for the establishment of the Ravenna Arsenal. With this announcement, the Lutz family sold its home and property in October 1940 and relocated to Paris Township. Thomas had remained on this family farm since he was 2 years old.

In his younger years, he delivered coal to the Ravenna Arsenal and had worked at the tile mill in Diamond, Ohio. Later, he would obtain employment at Rockwell International in Newton Falls and then would work for General Motors Assembly Plant in Lordstown, from where he retired.

To Thomas, the farm was a favorite place of enjoyment. Being on the family farm, he was able to care for his mother, Hazel. Once she was unable to sell the eggs from the farm, Thomas continued for years to carry on for her. He loved being on his tractor, enjoyed the outdoors and taking walks through the woods with his four-legged companion, Lillie. Relaxing on the porch swing was another favorite pastime. Tom had an incredible memory for dates and events. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.

Memories of Thomas will be carried on by his loving wife of 31 years, Beverly; his step-daughter, Marcia (Robert) Dash of Austintown; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great great-nieces and great great-nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Imogene Czoka, Clyde Lutz, Geraldine Zelena, Dan Lutz, Robert Lutz and Hazel Ford.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Warren Hospital for kindness and compassion in the care of Tom.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Merzweiler officiating.

Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris Township, Ohio.
