This fall, Classical WSMR has announced that it will broadcast several older productions by Sarasota Opera.

The company will kick off the streams with a 2021 production of Verdi’s “Otello” on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021. The opera stars Rafael Dávila and Maria D’Amata.

That recording will be followed by D’Albert’s “Tiefland” from 2018 on Oct. 30; the opera stars Kara Shay Thomson, Ben Gulley, and Aleksey Bogdanov. Next up is a broadcast of “La Bohème” from 2020 on Nov. 6 with Anna Madina, Jessica Sandidge, and William Davenport.

On Nov. 13, audiences will get a chance to hear Montemezzi’s “The Love of Three Kings” from 2017 starring Kevin Short, Marco Nistico, and Matthew Vickers.

“Rigoletto” from 2019, starring Stephanie Sundine, Marco Nisticò, and William Davenport, will be on the airwaves on Nov. 20. The series will close out seven days later on Nov. 27 with a presentation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Golden Cockerel” from a 2015 performance. This opera stars Alexandra Bastios, Grigory Soloviov, Timur Bekbosunov, and Jon Jurgens, among others.

All the broadcasts will be hosted by WSMR Music Director and Host Russell Gant with introductions by Sarasota Opera Artistic Director Victor DeRenzi and General Director Richard Russell.

Audiences can hear the performances via Classical WSMR at 89.1 or 103.9; they can also listen online or through the WUSF Public Media App.
