12-year-old boy struck by car, seriously injured in Taunton

TAUNTON, Mass. — Taunton Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a car on Friday night.

About 6:30 p.m., police and fire crews responded to the area of 43 Plain St. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located the boy, who was suffering from serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the boy was crossing the street with a family member when he slipped and fell backward into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The boy was struck by a 2006 Nissan Sentra traveling westbound.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence. His condition was not known Friday night.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.

No charges have been filed, and speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
