MARSHFIELD - The Panthers bottled up the Tigers offense, holding them to just 102 total yards in picking up the win to earn a share of the Valley Football Association title with Wisconsin Rapids and Wausau West.

Riley Warzynski led Stevens Point with 169 yards passing and three touchdowns, completing 14-of-24 passes.

Marshfield was led by Trevor Foemmel with 49 yards passing.

SPENCER - Brock Bennington accounted for all of the Rockets’ points with an interception return for a touchdown, a rushing touchdown, a two-point conversion and a field goal in the win over the Chiefs.

Bennington finished with 117 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Cade Stingle led Shiocton with 141 yards on 27 carries.

THORP - Cooper Diedrich rushed for 298 yards to lead the Bluejays past the Cardinals.

Diedrich ran for four touchdowns and threw for two while Caleb Borchardt rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass.

Athens, which led 36-0 at halftime, finished with 430 yards rushing and 516 yards of total offense.

Thorp finished with 250 yards of offense.

PITTSVILLE - Isaiah Hoyord rushed for three touchdowns, Ethan Clancy scored on a fumble return and William Tappa returned an interception 44 yards for a score in the Thunderbirds’ win over the Panthers.

Hoyord led Iola-Scandinavia with 157 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Parker Prahl added 53 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Pittsville was led by Aidan Kolar with 86 yards rushing on 28 carries.

GIRLS TENNIS

WIAA STATE TOURNAMENT

MADISON – The Neenah doubles team of Sophia Paape and Shelby Roth has advanced to the Division 1 semifinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Neenah duo, which is the No. 3 seed, won three matches Friday to reach the final four.

Paape and Roth defeated Kephely Igoni and Emma Kappel of Nicolet 6-2, 6-0, beat Kira Young and Grace Lewis of Hudson 6-1, 6-0, and then beat Fox Valley Association rival JeanMarie Lorentz and Abby Ostermann of Kimberly 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

The Neenah duo will play Ella Martin and Anna Sueflohn of Kettle Moraine in the semifinals at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

Paape and Roth were the alternate season state doubles champion last spring. Roth qualified with a different partner in 2019 and advanced to the second round.

Stevens Point Pacelli’s doubles team of Ella Schroeder and Marissa Stolt has advanced to the semifinals in Division 2.

Schroeder and Stolt beat Brooke Albrightson and Allison Albrightson of Baldwin-Woodville 6-1, 6-4 and then beat JJ Krohn and Lexi Kass of Brookfield Academy 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Schroeder and Stolt, who are the No. 5 seed, will play No. 1 seed Rebecca Daskal and Isabel Werner of University School of Milwaukee in the semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Schroeder and Stolt are at state for the third year in a row, advancing to the second round last year and falling in the opening round in 2019. Schroeder also qualified as a freshman in 2018.
